No Condemnation

Romans 7:21-25

So I discover this principle: When I want to do good, evil is with me. For in my inner self I joyfully agree with God’s law. But I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I myself am a slave to the law of God, but with my flesh, to the law of sin.

Have you ever wondered why you keep falling into the same traps of sin, mistake, and failure – or is it just me? In your mind, you know better, but your flesh overtakes you at times and you stumble or fall. Paul had the same problem, and he encourages us to take heart. We cannot overcome sin by our own flesh, and for this reason, Jesus came to die.

Jesus promised to send His Holy Spirit to dwell in us, and He assured us He would be with us until the end of the age, which has not yet come. But just as Jesus is always with us, we must remember that evil is with us, too, because we are flesh and blood. We may still have emotions that run wild or are injured that cause us to sin. We may still encounter fear that drives us to do the wrong thing. As I once heard Christine Caine say in a sermon, the Devil speaks loudly. At times, his voice may drown out the voice of the Holy Spirit in us, which often speaks in the gentle whisper of a still, small voice.

If you have loud voices of condemnation ringing in your ears today, that is not the voice of the Holy Spirit. Paul continues in Romans 8:1-2 to explain that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because the Spirit’s law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. Simply put, God knew you would sin and fail, and that is why He sent Christ to die for you. He knew you would make mistakes as a Christian. He does not condemn you for those mistakes; He transforms you through His Holy Spirit, and that work is a process. Submit to the process, and rest assured that God does not condemn you. You are loved, accepted, called, highly favored, and redeemed! You are His!

Have a blessed day!
