God Sees
Genesis 16:13
So she named the LORD who spoke to her: The God Who Sees, for she said, “Have I really seen here the One who sees me?”
Hagar was hurting. She had run away from her mistress, Sarai, due to mistreatment. She was a pregnant slave with no husband and a miserable outlook for a future in the household of Abram. Her mistress’s jealousy raged against her, and there would be no way to appease it. She was destined to eternal punishment if she returned, yet that was exactly what the LORD had instructed her to do. God saw her pain and comforted her.
Hagar’s predicament is very much like ours without Christ. As a lost sinner, we are subject to a harsh task master with eternal punishment and no hope of ever paying our debt. God, however, saw our desperate situation and had mercy upon us. He sent His one and only Son to pay the price for our freedom so we would not have to suffer eternal punishment. We are the slave woman set free.
Rejoice today that God sees your situation, and He has already made provision for you through Jesus Christ. You do not have to suffer eternally, and anything God calls you to endure on earth will be of gain to you somehow. He promises you an inheritance in His Son, and He will build something great through you if you surrender to His will. He sees, and He cares. Praise Him today, for He has given you hope.
Have a blessed day!
