Our Family Redeemer
Ruth 4:14
Then the women said to Naomi, “Praise the LORD, who has not left you without a family redeemer today. May his name be famous in Israel.
When a woman loses a husband, it is usually not just her loss but a loss to the entire family, and it affects the family dynamics. In the case of Ruth and Naomi, their family line would die without an heir. Their livelihoods were in jeopardy, and their whole sense of family was shattered. I know that feeling well. Quite often a widow finds herself trying to re-discover just what family is anymore.
God provided Naomi with a family redeemer. He kept her family intact and raised up an heir in her son’s name. She gained a daughter and a wealthy, godly son-in-law to take care of her. While she once called herself bitter, God gave her a new family and new purpose in taking care of them. She had reason to praise God for her family redeemer.
God gave us His own Son so that we might become part of His family. Christ is our family redeemer. In the Old Testament, when a sacrifice was made at Passover, a lamb was taken for the whole family. While every believer must choose to follow Christ for himself, God is still concerned for your entire family. Because of you, He will send the “Hound of Heaven” to pursue your family members so all may come to Christ. He knows what it will take for each one, and He loves you enough to make sure your family is intact spiritually. Christ is a family redeemer!
God created the family, and He gave us the need for inclusion within a family unit. Know that He is at work to redeem your family. He can bring whomever you need in your life to make that family unit complete. Wherever your sense of family may be shattered today, give it to God. Allow Him to bring the right relationships into your life for you to live abundantly, which is the reason Christ came. Naomi experienced this in the Old Testament as a type and shadow of Christ. We can surely enjoy this blessing as believers in the new covenant of grace through the risen Christ!
Have a blessed day!
