Learning to Walk
A man’s steps are established by the LORD, and He takes pleasure in his way. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the LORD holds his hand.
As humans, we will certainly fall when it comes to walking the Christian life. We are like babies learning to walk and children whose footing is not yet secure. God holds our hand while we are in the learning process, which never ends in this lifetime. God establishes our steps, meaning that He makes them secure and sure. We can rest assured that if we take a wrong path, God will gently direct us to the right one. He is with us even when we venture out the wrong way.
Regardless of how long you have been a Christian, you are still learning to walk. That is why God takes us through things we’ve never before encountered. He is continually establishing our steps so we can successfully walk this journey we know as life in Christ. If you fail a test, He will always give you another chance to pass. He will bring whatever reinforcements you need to help make your steps secure.
Learning to walk can be a frustrating process, but I’ve never seen a little one give up completely. The more we grow, the more we are able to take a sure step. Learning to walk can also be painful. I remember how my son kept bruises and knots on his head when he was learning to walk. It didn’t take him long because he wasn’t afraid to fall! He knew we’d be there to pick him up, and we were. The same is true for us. We cannot be afraid to stumble or fall. God is right there with us. We might wear a bruise for a while, but He will pick us up so we can continue.
Today, know that God is establishing your steps. Don’t be afraid to fall, and don’t become so frustrated with yourself that you give up. God is holding your hand. He is not disappointed that you are not further along, and He takes pleasure in helping you learn to secure each step. Rely upon His strength, knowing that you are about to walk more steadily than you have ever walked before because God is with you.
Have a blessed day!
