From Broken to Blessed
Psalm 51:17
The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. God, You will not despise a broken and humbled spirit.
In all of our pursuits to please God and do great things for Him by advancing His kingdom, our self-efforts and sacrifices will get us nowhere if we are trying to gain His approval. What God wants to do is heal the wounds that cause us to seek His approval in the first place. As a child of God, we already have His approval. His desire is for us to believe in His love for us. Therefore, He may break us before He can bless us.
If you have ever hit a brick wall in your walk with God and felt completely helpless to move forward, take notice. What is God revealing to you? What hurt arises in you as a result of not being able to advance? What need faces you that you absolutely cannot meet on your own? What inside you is broken that you cannot fix? Chances are, that is where God is working in your life.
Submit that broken place fully to God, and ask Him to heal you. Refuse to hold on to that hurt or hide it any longer. Such a sacrifice is pleasing to God. He will not despise a broken and humbled spirit, and He will heal whatever needs to be healed in order for you to move forward.
Verse 18 continues with yet more promise. “In Your good pleasure, cause Zion to prosper; build the walls of Jerusalem.” A broken spirit fully submitted to God has the power to prosper you in the area you need it most.
Have a blessed day!
